Plumline

Plumline is field-service software for home-service contractors — lawn care and landscaping, cleaning, pressure washing, pool service, pest control, and small HVAC and plumbing shops. It is built for owner-operators running roughly one to ten trucks.

The problem it addresses

Most service businesses price by feel. They copy a competitor's rate or estimate from experience, and the error is invisible: an underpriced job looks exactly like a completed job. Because the loss repeats on every job, growth makes it worse, which is why "busier than I have ever been and there is no money in the bank" is the most common complaint in the trade.

How it works

The Cost Engine. The operator enters real figures once — fixed monthly overhead, each truck's payment, insurance, fuel and maintenance, equipment purchase price and expected life in operating hours, wages with payroll burden, and how many hours of an eight-hour day are actually productive. From these Plumline computes a loaded cost per crew-hour: truck plus equipment plus labor plus overhead. That number is the operator's floor.

Pricing from the floor. Every service in the catalog derives its price from that cost and a target margin, using price = cost / (1 - margin). Change one input — a raise, an insurance increase — and every price in the business updates.

A margin verdict before sending. The quote screen shows what the operator will keep on that specific job while it is being built, not at month end.

Measured time closes the loop. The crew app gives field staff their route, a checklist, photos, and a start/stop timer. Bid time versus actual time is then reported per visit — per visit rather than per job, because a weekly mowing contract is one job with twenty-six visits, and reporting at the job level teaches the operator nothing until November.

What else is in it

Quoting with three-tier proposals, an AI-generated public website for the business, online quote acceptance with card deposits, scheduling, invoicing with text-to-pay and AR aging, recurring memberships, job costing, analytics by service, crew, and equipment, an AI receptionist that answers missed calls, and a contractor marketplace for referring out work the operator cannot take.

Pricing

Who it is not for

A solo operator with five customers does not need this. A company running forty trucks with dispatchers is better served by ServiceTitan. Anyone unwilling to enter real cost figures will not get value from it, because the Cost Engine is the product.
