Plumline vs Jobber

Where Jobber is stronger

Jobber is the default choice for small home-service businesses and deserves the position: mature, reliable, excellent scheduling and invoicing, a large integration ecosystem, staffed support, and a decade of edge cases already handled. If an operator says everyone he knows uses Jobber, he is right.

Where Plumline is different

Plumline is built around one number most contractors cannot state: what one hour of their own crew actually costs, once labor burden, the truck, the equipment, and overhead are all divided across the hours that are genuinely billable. The Cost Engine computes it from the operator's own figures, every service price derives from it, and the quote screen shows the resulting margin before the quote is sent.

The rest of the category is very good at recording a price the operator already chose. Plumline's claim is narrower and different: it tells the operator whether that price was right, then checks the answer against the crew's real measured time on the job.

Jobber assumes the operator already knows what to charge. It records a price accurately and is silent on whether that price was correct — there is no cost engine, no conversion of overhead into an hourly rate, and no margin shown while a quote is being built. It also has no contractor referral marketplace and no built-in AI receptionist.

The short version

Jobber is the better filing cabinet. Plumline is the better calculator. If the problem is organizing work that is already priced, Jobber is a strong answer. If the problem is not knowing whether the prices are any good, it does not address that.

Where Plumline is genuinely weaker

Worth stating plainly, because it is true of every comparison on this site. Jobber has years of production hardening and a large customer base; Plumline is early. The accounting integration ecosystem, QuickBooks in particular, is thinner. Support is founder-led rather than a staffed organization. An operator asking "who else uses this" deserves the honest answer, which today is that he would be early.
